The making of the Phantom of the cinema

Erik van Schaaik wanted to base the film on an old theater that actually existed. He didn’t have to look far. In Arnhem, the city where he lives, there is one very old theater. At the time of making the film the Luxor theater had gotten a new owner and was being renovated. After many years of silence the Luxor theater would become living and booming again. Both the architects and Erik have done a lot of research to figure out all details of how the theater once looked like. The theater had decayed so much, that many details had been lost.
They did find some old archive photographs, which they used for renovating the building. While the construction workers where working hard, we went down there to take as much pictures we could, of every tiny detail. After all, the virtual 3D model had to look just as good as the real thing.
